HistoryFounded in 2001 and named after Sohar city, Sohar University began its journey with One faculty, the Applied Sciences faculty and a mission to provide technology education.
Student BodySystem-wide enrollment of 1000 students; Students are from all parts of the sultanate.
LocationMain campus in Sohar city, 250 kilometers north of muscat the capitol of Oman.
ProgramsStudents can choose from a range of degree-level programs in Business and Management, Accounting, Computing, Information Technology, and Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. Sohar Aluminium

Sohar Aluminium, as one of OOC's projects, is also being awarded the 'Industrial Deal of the Year' in the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Sohar Aluminium is one of six 'Deal of the Year' awards for the region, and one of two in the AGCC. Both the award and the nomination portray the outstanding achievements of OOC in 2005. Sohar City

Sohar is a city located in the Al Batinah Region of the Sultanate of Oman, 240 kilometers north-west of the capital Muscat.
Sohar was an ancient capital of Oman. Many believe Sohar to be the birthplace of Sindbad the Sailor. It has a rich sailing history. Sohar is traditionally a fishing town and has a fish souk.
The town is close to ancient copper mines and Jebel Akhdar (the Green Mountain), the tallest mountain in Oman. It is also fairly close to the fort-towns of Ibri, Nakhl, Rustaq and Nizwa.
The Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC) operates the Sohar port, which was established in 2002 and is located east of the Strait of Hormuz. The Port of Sohar is not a free trade zone, unlike the Jebel ali free zone in the United Arab Emirates, located about 250 kilometers north-west of Sohar.

Sohar Fort

Located in Harat Al Hajara in Sohar town. Dated back to 179 A.H., It was renovated, to its present shape, in the (Eighth - Ninth century A.H.) (14th A.H. - 15th A.D.). During the reign of Imam / Nasser bin Murshid Al Ya'arubi, he was able to conquer and expel the Portuguese from this castle. Sohar castle remained as administration Centre for the ruling Al Busaid dynasty. The Ministry restored the Fort in 1985 and used it as a museum in 1993.
